When it comes to maintaining good oral hygiene routine, most of the people think about it as a plan that involves nothing more than brushing and flossing. The matter of fact is that oral hygiene involves a number of things; and so you have to make sure that you are doing everything to keep your oral cavity clean. Here, it would be worth mentioning that brushing and flossing are the most important components.

If oral hygiene were to be divided between the activities that you need to stick with in order to maintain this hygiene, brushing would take the biggest chunk out of it. The reason is that brushing deals with the cleaning of biggest potion of the dental surface. Therefore, you have to make sure that you are brushing your teeth in the ideal way. You will have to use a toothbrush with soft bristles because you don’t want your teeth enamel and gums to get damaged. Moreover, you will need to keep cleaning your teeth for at least 2 minutes every time you brush.

While you may not be interested in using the tradition toothbrush, you can use an electronic one. The electronic toothbrush has a small head which rotates. But this rotation can be quite helpful in cleaning the plaque.


While brushing can clean the evident surfaces of your teeth, the hidden areas and interdental spaces remain covered with plaque and food debris. This is where a dental floss can be useful. You can use dental floss to clean every hidden area which cannot be cleaned with brushing. It’s important because cavities can be formed in those areas and your teeth will become vulnerable.

You have to make sure that you are getting your oral cavity checked by a professional dentist every now and then. Besides regular dental cleaning that you will get from your dentist, your oral cavity is going to be fully examined. This way, you will be able to stay aware about the status of your oral health.

Diet plays an important and huge role in the oral hygiene. If you are fond of having foods which are sugary and loaded with carbohydrates, you are going to get your dental health ruined eventually. So, you have to make sure that you are getting teeth friendly foods. Fibrous fruits, vegetables and dairy products are quite beneficial for your oral and dental health.

Saliva is the most important component of your oral cavity. It keeps your mouth hydrated and teeth mineralized. Therefore, you have to make sure that you are not letting your oral cavity run out of saliva at any moment. For this purpose, you need to consume a lot of water on daily basis.
